![]() scenarios, things i did out of curiosity and the subsequent fubars i found out:ġ. my fingers started to get itchy (my culture's metaphor for curiosity got the better of me). i thought the process was going to be a simple one, that i was just going to break the array, then take out one mirror copy drive (and put this in my cupboard for later reuse), plug in the samsung SSD, run the data migration wizard (latest version from samsung, not the un-updated version provided by their DVDs along with the SSD box), and when done, i can just power down the computer, take out the other original Raid-1ed HDD, power back up, and call it a day!Įverything started to work just like before. i had been experimenting with breaking and rebuilding raid 1 arrays, and also trying out the ReFS (resilient file system) partition on my junk data. couple of weeks before, i figured out after much googling and reading that i can break the array without affecting the usability of each drives. The original OS drive was in a RAID 1 array (dual WDRed 2 tb). then problems start coming up one after another. i used samsung data migration program to do a clone copy. I recently bought a samsung 850 evo SSD (just a meager 256 GB, but more than plenty enough for me), thinking of using it to upgrade my PC. The story of my own mishaps when trying to clone a drive: ![]() I wonder if this clones a HDD OS to an SSD properly, or if it's the same with samsung's data migration program. When I boot a USB stick with another Linux - PopOS for this example -, which is quite bloated even, then it's smooth, working a lot in background (so many processes.) but web browsing and system in general are okay. Even typing this text and pressing the left arrow key to move, there is huge noticeable time where the cursor disappears, you wait, and then it moves back one word farther than the one you expected. ![]() Htop is showing right now: 2% max usage CPU, 1Gb of RAM usage (on 8), and at most 20 main processes, it's like the laptop is idle, but still Firefox (with one tab even) is darn slow. The most obvious part is when I'm browsing the internet with Firefox: just to open Amazon and search for an item, the page can take up to 25-30 seconds to load, which should be impossible since I have a really good internet (optical fiber with ~700mBits/s download and upload, sometimes 1Gbits/s). This page explains how to tune it, in my case I have an Intel CPU, so I set it to performance. I am struggling to identify the reason why my Gentoo system is somewhat super slow though it's been installed not so long ago, and is still not having many packages - at all.ĮDIT: TLDR: The culprit was the CPU governor in the kernel config which was by default set to userspace.
